Abstract

Pesticides are the chemicals which are used to kill pests in order to increase the crop productivity. However, their presence in other ecosystem may cause different impacts to both plants and animals. The concentration of different insecticides and fungicides in Godavari at Nasik during different seasons was investigated in the present study. The pesticides were determined by some proper procedures and protocols. Gas chromatography was used to know the concentration of pesticides. Different types of insecticides and fungicides were found in the water samples of Godavari river. The primary sources of pesticides were agricultural runoff from the adjacent agricultural fields. Hence, it is recommended that pesticide use should be limited and use of bio-pesticides may be encouraged.
